A shared descent with my step-mother?

I’ve just found out that my step-mother (she who shall not be named) and her children are listed on The Peerage site. It appears they are also descended from the Maitland Clan, although it’s been difficult to completely establish our common ancestor. I do remember hearing something about this as a teenager, but was unlikely to have been particularly interested or possibly tried to block it out sub-consciously.
