My mother has two miniatures which she thinks are Marwood ancestors. Apparently, they were returned to her mother with an anonymous note saying “I shouldn’t have taken these”. On the back of the miniature above is a note saying “Samuel Shepherd married to Elizabeth Gibbons, at St Dunstans Fleet Street London about 1768 or 176_”. I have actually found a marriage on Ancestry.co.uk for Samuel Sheppard to Elizabeth Gibbons on 1 Jun 1763 at St Dunstan in the West, London, City of London. Marriage record is recorded as Bans, so might be hard to get more information because I can’t find anyone else researching this family. Whether I’ll ever link Sam and Liz back to the Marwoods remains to be seen, but it’s another interesting mystery.
