Angus McDonnell and Christina MacNab

Angus McDonell 20th Chief of Keppoch

Charles Daniel has been sending me some fantastic photos and portraits of my Maitland and McDonnell of Keppoch Ancestors, including this one above of my great great great grandfather Angus McDonell 20th Chief of Keppoch. As mentioned some time ago, there seems to be some kind of historical revisionism concerning Angus’ Chiefship hopefully Graham Evan MacDonell, Principal Researcher at The Great Glen Genealogical Research Centre will help put the record straight in his forth coming book “For Aught Yet Seen”.

As the table below shows, Angus was descended from Alexander of Culloden by both his father and mother:

Alastair/Alexander

16th/17th of Keppoch?
m. Jessie Stewart

There’s also a portrait of his wife Christina MacNab (1816-1906), and she was also descended from Alexander of Culloden:

Christina MacDonell (MacNab) 1816-1906
From what I have found out from Rita Macdonald’s genealogical pages, Angus and Christina spent all their married life at Keppoch House (see photo here), although by this time it was rented from MacIntosh. Angus died in l855 from smallpox which he caught whilst caring for the victims of an epidemic in Glasgow. Christina, still young, was left to bring up their large family of twelve, three of whom died in fancy or early childhood. The photograph below is of Christina from 1902.
