Ancestors of Alice Hornby

Dave Birley very kindly sent me a document outlining Ancestors of Alice Hornby. There’s a lot of information that I’m just going to copy and paste simply to have some notes if I ever get around to doing something more structure. So here goes:

FIRST GENERATION:
Alice HORNBY was born on 9 Jun 1746 in Kirkham, Lancashire, England. She was christened on 30 Jun 1746 in Kirkham, Lancashire, England. She died on 19 Apr 1812 at the age of 65 in Blackburn, Lancashire, England. Alice was buried after 19 Apr 1812 in Blackburn, Lancashire, England.

Alice HORNBY and Richard BIRLEY were married on 15 December 1772 in of Kirkham, Lancashire, England.

Richard BIRLEY Merchant was born on 4 December 1743 in Blackburn, Lancashire, England. He was born on 4 December 1743.3 He died on 11 January 1812 in Kirkham, Lancashire, England. Richard died on 11 January 1812.3 He was buried after 11 January 1812 in Blackburn, Lancashire, England. Inscriptions…are on two raised stones, forming railed-in tomb; in Parish Church yard, Blackburn, Lancashire, North side, in line with East end, about 30 yards.

SECOND GENERATION

Hugh HORNBY was born on 19 Jul 1719 in of Kirkham, Lancashire, England. He died in Feb 1781 at the age of 61 in of Kirkham, Lancashire, England.

BIOGRAPHY: …settled in Kirkham. Apprenticed to Joseph Hankinson, Esq. of Kirkham, drysalter, flax and linen merchant and sail cloth manufacturer, whose daughter and ultimate sole heiress he married. After his father-in-law’s death, Mr. Hugh Hornby went into partnership with his brother-in-law, Mr. Thomas Hankinson, as a flax dresser and merchant, with premises in Kirkham and at Skippool Creek, near Poulton-le-fylde, which were later moved to Wardleys, on the other side of the River Wyre. Mr. Thomas Hankinson died intestate c.1775, and Mr Hugh Hornby then became sole proprietor of the merchanting business. By this means, he inaugurated the Hornby family’s extensive interests in the textile industry, which lasted well into the 20th century.

Margaret HANKINSON and Hugh HORNBY were married about 1745 in of Kirkham,

Margaret HANKINSON was born on 27 Oct 1723 in of Kirkham, Lancashire, England. She died on 3 Aug 1804 at the age of 80 in of Kirkham, Lancashire, England. “…eventually sole heiress of her father, Joseph.”

[Margaret HANKINSON was daughter of Joseph HANKINSON was born in September 1691 in of Kirkham, Lancashire, England. He died in 1737 in of Kirkham, Lancashire, England. He married Alice SUDELL about 1720 in Kirkham. She was born about 1695 in of Kirkham and was daughter of John SUDELL of Blackburn (born about 1675).

THIRD GENERATION
Robert HORNBY was born on 2 Jun 1690 in of Newton, Lancashire, England. He was christened on 8 Jun 1690 in Kirkham, Lancashire, England. He was buried on 12 Feb 1768/9 in Kirkham, Lancashire, England. Robert died in 1768 at the age of 78.

BIOGRAPHY: … yeoman and subsequently described as “gentleman”

Elizabeth SHARROCK and Robert HORNBY were married in Jan 1711/2 in of Kirkham, Lancashire, England.

Elizabeth SHARROCK was born about 1690 in of Clifton-with-Salwick, Kirkham, Lancashire, England.

[Elizabeth SHARROCK was seemingly daughter of Robert GREEN was born in 1870. He seems to be the son of Col. Henry Hugh HORNBY, but not he is natural son or through marriage to Sophia Haigh, daughter Thomas HAIGH Esq.born about 1810 of Elm Hall, Liverpool.]

FOURTH GENERATION
William HORNBY was born in 1656 in of Newton, Lancashire, England. He was christened on 20 September 1656 in Kirkham, Lancashire, England. He died in 1701 in of Kirkham, Lancashire, England. William was buried on 18 May 1710 in Kirkham, Lancashire, England. LAND_RECORDS: Mentioned in title-deeds of 24 Oct. 1677, 27 Dec. 1679, and 8 Apr. 1689

Isabel HORSCARR and William HORNBY were married on 3 September 1681 in of Kirkham, Lancashire, England.

FIFTH GENERATION
Richard HORNBY was born about 1613 in of Newton-with-Scales, Lancashire, England. So listed in Foster. He was buried on 27 March 1660 in Kirkham, Lancashire, England. LAND_RECORDS: … is mentioned in certain title-deeds still extant.

Elizabeth WALMESLEY and Richard HORNBY were married in 1653 in Kirkham, Lancashire, England.

Elizabeth WALMESLEY was born about 1615 in of Elston, Lancashire, England.

[Elizabeth WALMESLEY was daughter of Christopher WALMESLEY born about 1590 in of Elston, Lancashire, England.]

NEXT GENERATION
HORNBY was born about 1575 in of Kirkham, Lancashire, England. Guessed from son’s birthdate and from date information of “probable” grandfather, being this individual’s father HORNBY was married about 1600 in of Newton, Lancashire, England.
