Further to my earlier post about George Henry Kirby (see here). I’ve also found some more information about his wife, Alice (Elsie) Maitland, thanks to George H. Graham in Tulsa. He’d found the following announcement in The Times:
The Times, Monday, Oct 30, 1950: DEATHS
KIRBY – On Oct. 26, 1950, peacefully, at a London nursing home, after a short illness, ALICE MARI (ELSIE) KIRBY, in her 72nd year. Requiem Mass, Convent Church, Kensington Square, 10 a.m., to-morrow (Tuesday)
George on the other hand ended up in Harry Squires Memorial Hostel for the elderly, Taranaki Street, Wellington, New Zealand and a soldiers grave. No announcement in The Times or Requiem Mass. I’m not sure that my father even knew whether George was still alive in the 50s, so wonder if George had known that two of his children had died in WWII, that his wife had died and that he had 3 great grandchildren before he died.
