more dead-ends on The Peerage site

I’ve found a whole host of dead-ends today on The Peerage site, starting with Jean Hamilton: my 8th Generation ancestor who links me to the Hamilton families (see more here). I’ve included a few castle photos/prints just in case the genealogical detail and my note taking is of less interest.

Jean Hamilton is the daughter of Robert Hamilton, 6th of Wishaw and Susan Balfour. She married George Ramsay. Her married name became Ramsay.

It only mentions their daughter Georgina and George Ramsey is another stub. Both entries site the same source:

Charles Mosley, editor, Burke’s Peerage, Baronetage & Knightage, 107th edition, 3 volumes (Wilmington, Delaware, U.S.A.: Burke’s Peerage (Genealogical Books) Ltd, 2003), volume 1, page 327. Hereinafter cited as Burke’s Peerage and Baronetage, 107th edition.

As mentioned in my previous post about dead-ends on The Peeage site (see more here), Sir Alexander Maitland is another genealogical dead-end I’ve found there. I can join the dots between Sir Alexander Maitland and George Ramsey and his wife Jean Hamilton as follows:

Sir Alexander Maitland, 1st Bart (b 21.03.1728, d 14.02.1820); married (27.06.1754) Penelope Madan (d 22.12.1805, dau of Martin Madan)

Their son Sir Alexander Charles Maitland, 2nd Bart (b 21.08.1755, d 07.02.1848); married (30.04.1786) Helen Gibson-Wright (dau of Alexander Gibson-Wright of Clifton Hall and Kersie (d 08.11.1819)

Alexander Gibson-Wright of Clifton Hall and Kersie (d 08.11.1819), m. (29.01.1768) Margaret Gibson, the daughter of John Gibson of Durie and Helen Carmichael

Their son Alexander Gibson-Maitland, was born on 14 Sep 1787 (the oldest son (of six) and oldest child). He married Susan Ramsay on 25 Mar 1819. Susan Ramsay was the eldest daughter of George Ramsay, of Barnton, and Jean Hamilton, mentioned above on The Peerage site

James Douglas of Morton is another ancestral dead-end on The Peerage site and am having great trouble trying to work out who he is as James seems to a popular Douglas family name. The only clue I have is that his daughter Beatrix Douglas married William Hamilton, 1st of Wishaw, son of John Hamilton of Udston and Margaret Muirhead, in August 1621 (same source as above).

Nine generations earlier and there is another Douglas dead-end. This time it’s Sir Henry Douglas of Lochleven. He is daughter Helen Douglas married Walter Hamilton, son of Sir John Hamilton, 4th of Cadzow (same source as above).
